A Brief Biography:  My name is William.  I’m 46 years old now, married to a beautiful 36 year-old woman – I  have 3 daughters, 19 yrs, 10 yrs, and 1 year old.  I’m slightly intellectual, but I dream of being a full-blown beach-livin’ hippie.  I still dream of making my dreams come true for life.

We live just outside of  Boise, Idaho.

Until recently, I worked at MPC Computers – you probably didn’t see that they went bankrupt and have now closed their doors.  I don’t think it even raised a blip on the “economy” radar screen.  I loved that job.  I had great hopes for the company, too, but alas – all good things come to an end.

I used to be pretty fat.  And this is the story of how I lost a bunch of weight, and I’d love to show you how, and teach you to do the same.

The first time I was really FAT – I was at 308 pounds of solid jello.  “I have a good base of muscle,” I used to say.  That was true.  20 years of on-again, off-again weightlifting had given me a good base, but I still had a good topping of fat on that good base of muscle.

I was rapidly creeping up on 310 – and then I came down with diabetes.  Adult Type II diabetes: and it nearly killed me.  Normal is 65-110 mg/decaliter of sugar in your system – mine was 1100 (yeah, that’s one thousand one hundred mg/decaliter – Dead Man Walkin’!).

I lost my vision for a while (too blurry and bleary and painful to see).  I was dehydrated almost to the point of death and had every classic symptom in the book: thirst, vision failure, pain, constant foot pain in both feet, severe rash, dry tissue (you don’t even want to know about that) — and I was completely unaware that I had diabetes.

How could I have known? — there was no diabetes in my family.  Until me.

So that was in 1999 that I came down with Type II Adult-onset diabetes.

“Drop 70 pounds and your diabetes will go away”

My 10 year old was a few months old at the time.  It was Zoë’s Pediatrician that told me “If you drop 70 pounds your diabetes will go away”.  I was just over 305 lbs and I’m 5 feet 10 inches tall.

The diabetes symptoms alone caused me to drop about 40 lbs and I followed the diabetic diet (for a good long while). I monitored my blood sugar for 6-7 years and kicked the white processed sugar habit (which I now believe is probably killing a lot of people).  I switched from regular soda (Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Coke) to diet soda only and eventually I recovered.  It was a long and painful road and everything in my life changed – for the better (I see now).

I used some glucophage and glucovance and the symptoms of my diabetes went away.  I still watch it, though, because I have to.

FAT again

Over the last 6 years, my weight crept slowly back up, despite lots of good intentions, and then BANG! I was tipping scales over 280 lbs again.  My 44” waist pants didn’t fit.  My 2X-Large T-shirts didn’t fit.  I was FAT again.

Of course I started looking at weight loss solutions.  I was too lazy to exercise then, and it hurt to exercise.  All that extra weight makes it hurt to exercise.

Then, because I do like to read and listen and pay attention, I started paying attention to more and more weight loss information, watching closer and closer and reading more and more about the “natural” stuff, because I know the natural stuff is better for me than some synthetic compound manufactured under fluorescent bulbs in a lab.
